Blog #39 Our Dance with Mercury Retrograde!
It really is a dance when we started this beautiful New Year 2023 with Mercury Retrograde. Mercury went retrograde on December 29th, 2022 and will go direct on January 18th, 2023. It is in the sign of Capricorn which is ruled by Saturn; a powerful sign that is earthy, outgoing, practical, ambitious, persistent and patient.
This is a fantastic time to finish up projects, make a plan for the New Year and breathe because the forward push has let up for a few weeks. This is also an excellent time to reflect on the past, and learn from it and let it all go. It’s said that intuition is higher during these periods, and coincidences and miracles can be extraordinary. So be open to the signs and symbols and listen to your inner guidance.
WHAT IS “MERCURY RETROGRADE”?
Due to the way our planet’s orbit interacts with the orbits of the other planets, they might sometimes appear to be traveling backward through the night sky with respect to the other planets from our view point from Earth.
This is, in fact, an illusion, which we call apparent retrograde motion.
Three times a year, it appears as if Mercury is traveling backwards. We refer to these periods as times when Mercury is in retrograde motion, or simply
“Mercury Retrograde” These times in particular are traditionally associated with delays, missed communication and frustration. Think email and text blunders, missed phone calls and crazy mixed up travel plans and appointments.
When you have a few planets in your Natal chart like I do that are ruled by Mercury (Sun in Gemini, Moon in Virgo and Jupiter in Gemini) all ruled by Mercury or if you have aspects to Mercury, you may feel and experience Mercury Retrograde much more than others do.
Personally I feel it is a powerful time to breathe, meditate and communicate with God and my Guides and Teachers; an excellent time to check in with myself and what I am creating.
WHEN IS MERCURY IN RETROGRADE IN 2023?
In 2023, Mercury will be in retrograde motion during the following ranges of dates:
· December 29, 2022 to January 18, 2023
· April 21 to May 14
· August 23 to September 15
· December 12, 2023 to January 24, 2024
What is the best thing to do when MERCURY is in RETROGRADE?
The planet Mercury rules verbal and written communication, travel, contracts, automobiles, and the Tech world, proclamations, affirmations, intentions, and promises.
Saturn which rules Capricorn is the big manifestation agent, who takes everything literally. As well, Saturn loves effort, thinking, speaking and writing things down. It is a great time to think about what your intention is for this year 2023.
So, when Mercury is retrograde, stay grounded and centered and let things flow. Remain flexible, allow extra time for travel, and avoid signing contracts if possible. Double check your email’s and texts responses, check in with reservations before you take that trip. Confirm your appointments and be kind and patient with everyone. People can feel frazzled!
It is a great time to review the past year and plan ahead, but wait until Mercury is direct again to make any final decisions.
Embrace this time of new beginnings and the space to take a deep inner look at what you would like to create this year to fulfill your Soul’s Purpose and Divine Plan in this life.
