What are our Dreams telling us? Blog #16
Last week we looked at the best way to get some good sleep that can lead to sweet dreams. This week wanted to look at the meaning and interpretation of dreams. I have always been so fascinated since I was a kid about dreams and what the message is. The more you look at your dreams the better at reading them you get. Remember it is validating yourself for what you see, so then you will see even more.
Keeping a dream journal is such a powerful way to discover what our dreams are telling us. Over time it can give you some much needed feedback in your life. It is an awesome tool to evaluate and understand what is bubbling up to be looked at and sometimes to be healed.
First thing in the morning, write down your dreams and then contemplate and ask in meditation the meaning and message the dream has for you. Remember everything in the dream is about you or represents some part of you. Unless it is a prophetic dream, which is a dream that is showing you something that may happen in the future.
Some examples of the meaning of things in a dream:
*Water=emotions-tidal wave=big emotions and overwhelm
*Home, car, plane, boat=YOU! How you move through the world
*Flying=freedom or escape. Also happy!
*Fire=transmutation & change
*Death=transformation & change, change, change!
*Other People=usually parts of yourself
*Mom & Dad=your parent self or apart of them that is you
*Brother and Sister or friend=part of them that’s like you.
*Child-inner self or child self, need to take better care of you.
*Person, friend, family or pet=may be a message about them or for them. *Colors=very personal, feel into whatever the color means to you
*Lost something or frustration dreams=your unconscious letting off steam from the stress.
(I dream about losing my purse or car when I am frustrated about something)
*Car or a boat or plane =if you are in the driver’s seat you’re in control and if you are in the back seat you are not in control of the situation.
Home:
*Home: Attic-higher self or higher conscious,
*Bedroom-rest & rejuvenate or conscious self,
*Basement-hidden or unconscious self,
*Kitchen=nourish yourself,
*Bathroom-eliminate or cleanse your body or something in your life
*Living room or Family room=action to take in life or not
*Wild animal=symbol of power or freedom-depending on the animal
*Your Pet=your child self or the inner child
*Computer or pen or phone=need to communicate about something or to someone.
*All dreams are signs and symbols for you as a message, so they can mean many different things. So tune in and see what they mean to you!
The best way to read our dreams is to sit in meditation and be nice and grounded and centered and look at each piece of the dream and what it means to you. You are the best reader of your dreams. Also, it is fun to find someone that you can brainstorm with about your dreams.
Recurring dreams or nightmares are telling you a story you need to look at. When I was 7-9 years old, every few weeks I had the same dream.
In my dream: I was about 5 years old, in the back seat of my Dad’s car. He stopped at a liquor store and he ran into get something and left me in the car running and the car started to roll faster and faster. I tried my hardest to get out from the back seat, but the car was surrounded by alligators. I was scared to death and then woke up and knew I was ok and it was just a dream.
Of course I didn’t understand at the time, but as I got older looking back at my dream, it was showing me I had no control over the situation I was in at home (sitting in the back seat and can’t get out). I felt stuck in a very volatile situation and then when I was nine my parents separated and then got a divorce and my recurring dream stopped and I never had it again.
Our dreams are awesome to help us release and let go of fears, worries and frustrations and also to inspire us to take our next steps.
In my teens I had wonderful dreams that I was flying to different places around the world learning all kinds of things, and also dreaming about swimming with wild Dolphins and Humpback whales.
Had a client the kept dreaming about doves nesting in the tree in his front yard and then he would see himself hugging his girlfriend. He knew it was time to pop the question and ask her to marry him.
Being in our beautiful body and having an incredible limitless eternal spirit, dreams are a GIFT of miraculous insights.
You are the best reader and interpreter of your dreams.
Enjoy and be open to the amazing wisdom you receive.
Sweet Dreams!
