Journaling for Clarity & Healing! Blog#27
Keeping a journal is an incredible tool to achieve clarity and awareness in processing our life experiences. It is a profound tool to help release and heal our past negative emotions, stuck thoughts or hurt feelings. Journaling is the process of writing insights and wisdom we receive as we process our day.
By writing in a journal, we can realize a lot about ourselves, when talking with a friend or why I got my feelings so hurt when talking to my Mother. Keeping a dream journal helps to understand what is bubbling up. We can perceive a new understanding and awareness about ourselves and then our world expands.
It is different from keeping a diary where you just write down the activities of the day, where you went, what you did or whom you met.
With journaling, you can get to the core of your feelings and experience a new awareness.
I started journaling in high school and took an amazing journaling class in college by Dr. Anderson at UCSD. The instructions each day were to ask your Higher Self (I like to call it my God Self): “What is the rule of right action for this day?” and then just let the words flow.
For example I would get: Just BE!, or Take a long walk, or Listen! Very simple information and instructions would flow out onto the page, but I would learn so much about myself on that walk, watching two cranes fly overhead or noticing life signs and symbols all around me. I began to allow myself to approach life with more awe and wonder each day!
Keeping a journal is fun! Purchase a beautiful book that inspires you to write, it can be an elegant book or just a plain notepad. Find a journal that is easy to use. There are also journal apps on your computer or put one on your phone. Write your name in it and give your journal a name, so it is like talking to a friend.
It is great to choose a time in the day when you are able to sit quietly and write for a few minutes; first thing in the morning or right before bed or even a few minutes during lunch.
Start by asking yourself some simple questions and let your thoughts and feelings just flow out onto the paper. For example: How am I feeling today? What am I concerned about this morning? Whom do I keep thinking about today and why? What is lighting me up? All of the answers are within us!
Journaling is another way to communicate with your God Self, to receive insights into your relationships, inspirations, dreams, and inner growth. It is extremely helpful to look at your journal over a period of time and see the changes and insights from one year to the next.
Journaling is a profound tool in my life helping me get through extremely challenging times; like helping my mother get ready to make her transition to spirit or going through a serious illness. It is a wonderful way to validate yourself and your growth.
It is also a way to communicate with your best friend-Your God Self!
