Miracle Humpback Whale “0202”
Miracle Humpback Whale “0202”
Starting at a very early age, every year my Mother and I would go on a retreat to somewhere we had never been before. We wanted to be in nature, take walks and meditate on life and what we wanted to create in our lives. As an adult, I continued to take a week or two usually by myself to go on retreat and get in touch with how I am feeling about things and look at my next steps I wanted to take.
I love the ocean and the mountains and would often choose the one that called to me the most that year. I would find a location to go to every year for a few weeks and then somewhere else would call to me. I had amazing healing and insights going to Sedona, AZ and communing with nature: the birds, hawks, eagles, foxes, Javelina’s (wild pigs), deer, quail, eagles and even bats. Each step I took seemed to have a new lesson or insight for me. All the healing was incredible.
I have always had a love and affinity with whales and dolphins. Almost every time going to the beach growing up, dolphins and or whales would show up. One year I was guided to go to the big island of Hawaii and ended up going every year for six years. I received profound messages from the Wild Spinner dolphins, Humpback whales and giant green sea turtles.
On one of my first trips to the Big Island of Hawaii, a small group of us were staying at a big beautiful house on the Kona coast on the Big Island overlooking the bay. Each morning we would sit on the lanai and watch the sun come up and see if we could see the Wild Spinner Dolphins come into the bay after their long night of fishing. That morning there was a lot of activity out in the middle of the bay so we decided to jump in our kayaks and go out there and take a look. As we got closer, we stopped because we could see that it wasn’t the Wild Spinner Dolphins but instead to our delight and amazement it was a mother Humpback whale and a brand new born calf. We knew that it was most likely a new born because he was still white. Often new born Humpback whales are born white and stay that way for the first few hours and days of life.
We watched from about 300 yards away and then to our miraculous surprise the mother Humpback brought the baby over to us almost as if to say “These are humans- say hello”. Even sitting in our kayaks you could hear them talking to each other and see them touching. As I touched the water with my hand it felt soft and almost creamy texture.
The mother and the baby must have swum around us for about two hours and we just didn’t want to leave. The mother Humpback would come close and look at us and was already beginning to teach her baby how to swim, spin, take a breath and slap the water with its fin. They were very comfortable with us and us with them. I could feel the gentleness in both of them and the profound gift and privileged to be witness to this Humpback mother and baby.
We didn’t want to leave them, but as we started to paddle back in to the house, they followed us and then slowly swam out of the bay. It was totally surreal. Like we had gone to another planet and communing with an alien life. We were all enjoying floating together with them in the water and us in our kayaks.
When we got ashore there were many people on a small beach watching nearby. The keepers of the bay (Hawaiians that hold space and care for certain sacred places on the islands) were there and said it had been 15 years since a Humpback whale had given birth in that bay. Everyone was so excited. For me it was a life changing experience to be a part of that sacred moment of new life.
That afternoon, the small group of us that had had this extraordinary experience sat on the lanai and talked about our experiences and how it had impacted each one our lives. What an incredible miracle and blessing to be a part of that Humpback whale calf’s birth. To feel the presence, power and awareness for them to be comfortable with us as we were with them. We remembered that the Humpback whales are considered to be the record keepers for planet Earth from when time began.
We decided that we needed to give the baby a name. We weren’t sure if it was male or female, but most of us felt it was a male. We were trying to come up with a Hawaiian name, but couldn’t think of one and we started talking about how it was February 2nd or 02/02 and we decide that sounded like a good Hawaiian name so we called him “0202”. This experience of such power, awe and wonder changed me forever.
My suggestion for everyone is to pick a place you are guided to go to on vacation or as a personal retreat. Have the intention that you will allow yourself to approach the experiences and all the adventures it has to offer, as a child with awe and wonder and watch the miracles unfold and see how it transforms your life.
Love to hear your amazing miracles.
