Seek the Sacred in the Ordinary! Blog #25

It is remarkable all the little miracles we experience every day. When I sit outside on my patio and meditate and then open my eyes there are Monarch Butterflies flying all around and laying their eggs and drinking nectar from the Milkweed plants. What a surprise and an incredible gift.

Or watching my kitties at play, they have no worries or fears just a crumbled up piece of paper makes them happy for hours. Just being present and enjoying being a kitten.

Many of the lessons from the master teachers is about finding the sacred in the ordinary,  in our neighbors, friends, family and even in our own kitchen or backyard.

Sitting in my backyard, I watch our two little birdhouses that each have a family of four baby Wrens just about to fledge and fly off to their freedom and new life. The Wrens are following their hearts call to find a mate. It always makes me smile that they come back almost every year and nest in our birdhouses and raise a family. Nature is such a gift!

One day taking a long walk on the beach I was sending a telepathic hello to the dolphins that I see almost daily. Communicating with them is such a joy. As I walked out on the sand I looked up and there were a small pod of bottlenose dolphins’ right out in front of me. As I sent a telepathic picture of them jumping through the waves and surfing and playing to my amazement they started jumping through the waves and surfing through the curl. Every leap and jump expressed so much joy. As I walked up the beach they followed right along with me. Then I sat down on the sand for a little while and meditated with my eyes closed for a few minutes, then when I opened my eyes they were still right out in front of me. They hadn’t moved on up the coast like they normally would do.

I began to walk back home up the beach and the dolphins again followed right along with me, I could feel their love and joy. After living in Del Mar for six years, I had never had that happen before. I had a rough few days and it was as though they were just cheering me up on my walk. What a wonderful healing and blessing it was, I felt so much better.

We can find the sacred all around us, in your garden watching a hummingbird or a dragonfly. Or walking on our street, see the bunny that comes out only at dusk, or seeing the neighborhood resident Red Tail Hawk that I call “Flame”, soring on the thermals in the afternoon.

What about this ordinary place is extraordinary?
