Blog #105 Wrens are nesting in my birdhouse & in my heart
Each year we are so fortunate to have two or three bird families nest in our birdhouses, mostly Wrens and Finches. Right now it is such a joy to see the Wren Mom and Dad come the feed their four babies. They are very busy!
The world of birds is such a colorful and melodious one, waiting right outside our window –we need not look any further than our own backyard or neighborhood. Whether you're a seasoned birder or new to this peaceful pastime, observing our feathered friends can offer a serene retreat you’re your daily life even for just a moment in time to help us stay and live more in present time.
I know when I'm watching the Wrens taking good care of their little family and hearing the sweets chirps’ of the babies waiting for their yummy meal, it is a gift and brings me so much joy!
We have a Hummingbird feeder hanging outside our kitchen window, and I love watching all the different varieties of Hummingbirds and the migrating ones come and go as well. All of them have such amazing colors, and it is so much fun listening to their communicating with one another and with me.
Last year was the first time I ever saw an Allen’s Hummingbird, all peach, pink and rust and a little red on his throat. I thought he was a migrating Hummingbird, but to my surprise he has stayed around all year. So beautiful!
Bird Watching has so many benefits:
· For the Body: Spending time outdoors, even if just for a short while, exposes you to fresh air and can be a gentle form of exercise as you move to spot different birds.
· For the Mind: The act of observing and identifying birds sharpens focus, promotes mindfulness, and can be a delightful learning experience.
· For the Soul: Birds, with their carefree flight and melodious songs, remind us of the beauty in simplicity and the rhythms of the Universe. You will feel the awe and wonder of the perfection and variety of Mother Nature and this amazing planet we live on.
Easy Spotting Birds:
· Start by grabbing a pair of binoculars if you have them, or use your natural eyesight.
· Find a quiet spot, be it by your window, balcony, or in a nearby park
· Observe the birds, noting their colors, patterns, and calls. You might even bring along a notepad or use your phone to track your sightings!
· You can even record their calls on your phone.
· Helps to hang a feeder and a few birdhouses off your patio or in a nearby tree.
Connecting with and watching birds and the natural world is so relaxing and allows us to feel the true oneness with God and with all of nature. Saying that simple spirit to spirit hello to them and listen or feel their hello back to you.
It’s one of my personal favorite things to do especially in the spring to watch and communicate with the Hummingbirds, Finches, Wrens, Chickadees, or Red tail Hawks and Kestrel Falcon... Such a blessing! It is such a gift to find all the joy we can in this life every day!
