Blog #68 Are You Hurting or Fearful?
Divine inspiration and transforming prayers are so healing when we are in need of help and support, when feeling fearful of the future or things are going wrong or we are hurting from a loss and uncertain.
Divine inspiration is everywhere, in nature and in the ancient writings and even more recent scriptures and poems, in meditation or from an, aha moment of profound understanding and insight.
Through the years, we find such inspiration and creative empowerment through writings and poems and connecting with the light, love, power and presence within each of us.
The Prayer for Protection, written by James Dillet Freeman who wrote his first draft in 1940; The "Prayer for Protection" has been one of the most repeated and impactful lines of prayer verse in the English language.
Even Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin carried the “Prayer for Protection” to the moon and back.
Prayer for Protection
The light of God surrounds us;
The love of God enfolds us;
The power of God protects us;
The presence of God watches over us.
Wherever we are, God is!
The powerful Saint Francis of Assisi Prayer (he was born Giovanni di Pietro di Bernardone; Italian: 1181 or 1182 – 3 October 1226), venerated as Saint Francis of Assisi, also known in his ministry as Francesco, was an Italian Catholic friar, deacon, mystic, and preacher. He founded the men’s Order of Friars Minor, the women’s Order of St. Clare, the Third Order of St. Francis and the Custody of the Holy Land. Saint Francis is one of the most venerated religious figures in Christianity.
Prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.
O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.
Another with a profound reminder:
Zen Proverb:
Before enlightenment
Chopping wood
Carrying water.
After enlightenment
Chopping wood
Carrying water.
These profound writings have always brought me comfort and healing insight at extremely important times in my life when I have been afraid or not known which way to go; I am so grateful they have brought inspiration, strength and reassurance along my spiritual journey.
Last month when my family was all praying for a beloved family member, who was in the hospital critically ill, turning to the prayers that heal and encourage was such a blessing. He is now healing and on the mend.
Find prayers that bring healing to your body and to your soul and keep them close.
Also, you can create one for yourself.
Here is one I created a few years ago that I use often:
